Recognition of certificates
The correct institution to which applications should be addressed in order to recognize periods of school education is the Ministry of School and Professional Education.
You may submit applications for evaluation of your general education school leaving certificate (secondary school leaving certificate – previously called leaving certificate from a Hauptschule in Germany) and of your intermediate education or middle school leaving certificate (intermediate school leaving certificate – until recently called leaving certificate from a Realschule in Germany) to the Ministry of School and Professional Education in Kiel. The refugee and immigration advice centre in your neighbourhood can assist you in completing the forms. Information on refugee immigration advice centres may be found under the heading Persons to Contact.
In principle, it is possible to submit an application to recognize a foreign professional qualification for all recognized professions that are accredited in Germany. A general description of what is required in order to have a qualification recognized is available from the Federal Agency for Employment (cf. link below):
There are approx. 340 accredited professions in Germany that are recognized under federal law. In addition, there are more than 30 professions recognized under state law which may be evaluated by the Ministry of School and Professional Education in Schleswig-Holstein (cf. link below):
