The Ministry of Science, Economic Affairs and Transport

Improving the conditions of investments, growth and employment are the top priorities for the Ministry. The Science and Economics Department are now merged in Schleswig-Holstein, something that is unique in Germany. It allows the existence of a future policy in which research and innovation are sustainably strengthened. The main focus of politics is also the extension of infrastructure and education.

Minister Jost de Jager, Secretary of State, Dr.Cordelia Andreßen, who is also Head of the Ministry, and the Secretary of State, Dr.Tamara Zieschang are the leading heads of the Ministry. The Ministry employs around 320 people.

The highway management services for road construction and transport, as well as the Schleswig-Holsteinische Seemannschule vocational school belong to the portfolio.

The following is an overview of the tasks accomplished by the Ministry:

• University and research policy focusing on the networking between science and economics and the modernisation of the areas of university and research.
• A policy oriented towards growth and employment, and comprising, amongst other things, the development of the economic infra-structure, the Schleswig-Holstein Funds, the strengthening of the focused areas, business development containing support programmes by the European Union, the conversion and the foreign trade, as well as the activities of the administrative trade regulations and the activities of the economic regulatory law.
• Technology policy and the support of innovations, as well as the promotion of technology in companies, infrastructure development and coordination with EU tourists
• Energy policy with the following topics: energy industry, energy efficiency, energy supervision, energy legislation and renewable energy
• Vocational education and further education/qualifications
• Transportation policy, road traffic legislation and transport safety; with local public transport, rail traffic, road construction, shipping divisions and harbours, as well as air transport.
