"Meerespreis Schleswig-Holstein"
Forschungsschiffe Littorina und Alkor
Ships, sailors, compass, radar, echo sounder, buoys, fish, captains and boat builder, the Wadden Sea, the beach and Ocean Scientists in several fields - all that is Schleswig-Holstein. And everything is related to each other.
Safe ships ensure clean water and beautiful coasts. Nature protection protects flora and fauna, moreover, it supports tourism. High-tech products around navigation do not only safeguard the shipping, but also the jobs here in Germany. The research of agents from the sea is not only printed in textbooks, but creating medication against neurodermatitis and cancer. The sea is habitat, food source, medium for transportation, sports ground, place of curiosity and amazement and even a blue pharmacy.
To demonstrate this network of the use of the sea and to recompense some people for their distinguished service concerning the protection and the conservation of the sea, the "Schleswig-Holstein Meerespreis - Elisabeth-Mann-Borgese Preis" is to be awarded for the first time in 2006 by the Land Government.
