State Agency for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas (LLUR)
The State Agency for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas (LLUR) came into existence through a merger of the State Offices for Rural Areas, the State Environmental Offices and the Sate Office for Nature and the Environment and has been operating with 8 departments since January 1, 2009. These departments comprise the fields of agriculture, fisheries, nature conservation, water management, geology and soil management, technical environmental protection and the development of rural areas. Besides our headquarters located in Flintbek, we provide our services in 15 other locations that are easily accessible for the citizens of Schleswig-Holstein.
As a higher state authority affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Environment and Rural Areas, we are part of a network of agencies that secure the uniqueness, diversity and beauty of Schleswig-Holstein’s natural surroundings by implementing sustainable land management strategies. We have a wide range of responsibilities as for example:
- Regulating land use and development and promoting the so-called ActiveRegions,
- promotion of and compliance with legal targets in agriculture and fisheries,
- licensing and monitoring industrial sites and air quality measurements,
- geological and pedological mapping, management of polluted areas and matters of hydrogeology and natural resources,
- implementing European directives concerning water and soil as well as the Natura 2000 directives.
In so doing, we are making a contribution to opreserving the natural assets of Schleswig-Holstein’s cultural landscape on a sustained basis permitting the use of the products generated by the different ecosystems, ogiving momentum to the development of rural areas and otransforming natural advantages of location in the agriculture and fishery industries into enduring economic and social stability.
