The Ministry of Interior of Land Schleswig-Holstein

On one hand, the tasks to be accomplished by the Ministry of Interior of Land Schleswig-Holstein are ensuring internal security by means of police, civil protection and disaster assistance, and by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. On the other hand, the Ministry of Interior is responsible for local matters: civil service law, organisation of public administration, constitutional law, land use regulation and land survey, planning of cities and residential construction, as well as sports.

The Minister of the Interior, Klaus Schlie, and the Secretary of State, Volker Dornquast, are at the head of the Ministry, having around 430 employees in six departments. The police force, the Federal Criminal Police Office as well as the Land Survey Office (Ordnance Survey in the UK), are subordinated to the Ministry.

The Ministry of the Interior provides appropriate personnel and equipment to the police. The Office for the Protection of the Constitution observes extremist organisations which have the objective of destroying our liberal constitutional order and our democracy. The Ministry of the Interior deals with the reform of the civil service, which is the centre of the entire state government administration. Holding elections and supervising the Federal Statistical Office are further activities. The Minister of the Interior supports and provides advice to districts, cities and communities.
